User Reviews about Frontlines: Fuel of War

Kinda a lame title if you ask me. Any way i would say this is a pretty good game (At least if you cant play M Rated games like myself.) First of all DO NOT PLAN ON BEING ABLE TO PLAY IT AT FIRST! Don't get all "Yay yay yay my new games here!" and think you can just pop it in your computer and play it, No sir that just is not how it works, Once you get it you need to load about 10 patches (They will take about 3 hours) then you get mad at the multiplayer and you think GOSH THIS THING IS A PEACE OF CRAP! But don't throw it out yet, This game uses "Punkbuster" for its multiplayer, Punkbuster is a (In my Opinion) very lame and has so meny bugs i cant believe so meny games use this for there multiplayer, Any problems you have with the multiplayer just type in Punkbuster on google and you should find there site, They have a FAQ that has most of the errors in it, and let me tell you there is alot, That just about covers it, I Do not recomend this for PC, if you have a XBOX 360 Buy that verson, And if you can play M games don't waist your time and money on this game. -- Frontlines: Fuel of..... INTRO

Okay, I've looked at the reviews concerning the game and some of the 1 star reviews are due to the user's error. Unless a game states that it can support Windows 7, PLEASE CHECK: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
I'm getting very annoyed and angry at people who are ignorant to their own error and rate software a 1 star because of this. It detracts from the game's overall view opinion when shopping and it drives people like me (when looking reviews for games to buy and play) crazy. So if you're reading this and say, "Ah, that's me." Please, just review what you can and find out if the problems you're having is due you and not the software. Just for those who do have Windows 7 DO NOT GET THIS GAME unless you want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out a way to play it on Windows 7.

See: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=Frontlines:%20Fuel%20of%20War&v=THQ&uid=&l=en&pf=0&pi=0&s=Frontlines%20Fuel%20of%20War&os=64-bit

It states that for this game Windows 7 is "Not compatible, The software publisher stated this product is not compatible."

REVIEW

Graphics - 4.5
They are really well done. Since this is using the Unreal Engine it is to be expected that the graphics are better than most games produced at the time. Also since it uses Unreal Engine it does provide some leeway for modification of the game.

Single Player - 3.5
Okay, the game's plot is a bit... interesting and realistic, but it gives a somewhat cliffhanger to the end result of the war that was started (during the game). In reference to a reviewer about the grenade launcher: yes it is like a grenade with a rocket attached. It's extremely useful and fun to see the grenade propelled at high speed at an enemy and see the enemy fly from the blast. The campaign is quite interesting, the in-game movies (.BIK for those who want to know) are well done. For those who like the incorporation of some of the realities of war from both a journalist and/or solider in a storyline, just play the single-player and watch/hear the videos and monologues.

Stability and Usability - 3
Every game has its bugs. As for this game, it has more bugs than most. I do agree that THQ did release this in a rush and that they should have done some fine tuning of the game and CD (which I had trouble starting the game with) before releasing it. I would advise that if you're just starting out with playing video games and you play this one, do not be surprised if the game DOES lag. The graphics are really top notch, meaning that the game will lag if you do not have the right specs on your desktop or laptop. If you find that you're having lag, please TONE DOWN the graphics settings. While this may detract from the visual of the game, at least you can play it. As for me, I just had the settings set for default and I rarely had any problems with graphics (I do have a 256MB video card though).

AI - 3.5
Better than average AI, compared to the non-responding enemy commander in Battlefield 2 (Which EA still has to fix after 2+ years) so in that sense, THQ did some good here. There are some minor problems to the ally AI. I had to go though about half of a mission near to the beginning without any support because their vehicle was "stuck". I had a hell of a time trying to finish that mission. As a whole, your ally AI are pretty smart and can protect your ass from being kicked. An example of this is when an ally AI spotted a sniper which almost blew my head off; really helpful, but at the time I wished that the AI did it sooner.

Vehicles - 3
The physics for the ground vehicles are superb, but as for the air vehicles ( in multiplayer or lan) have no sense of physics (compared to Battlefield 2). As for being able to drive it and shoot it, the vehicles are pretty nice.

Multiplayer - ?

Unfortunately, I have never really played a multiplayer game as when I was looking at the maps in the lan game, it lost my interest.

CONCLUSION

Graphics - 4.5
Single Player - 3.5
Stability and Usability - 3
AI - 3.5
Vehicles - 3
Multiplayer - ?

Final score: 3.5

I would like to put a 4 but because of the bugs I would give it a 3 using Amazon's star review. -- A Very Good Game, But There are Flaws
Firstly, the graphics in this game are very good, and I appreciate that the designers made the video options to customizable. Secondly, for a very complex game this one surprisingly has no bugs. I'm not really partial to multiplayer in general, so I will rate the single player experience.
I would describe this game as fun and enthralling. You are given objectives on a map, as well as a small team that follows you around. Their AI is good enough to help, but not so aggressive that they steal all your kills. My favorite part of this game are the remote-control drones they give you. You can pick up several along your way, such as a mini tank and a mini helicopter. Flying those things around is too much fun.
The story and music are superb, and I really felt like I was immersed in a near-future war movie. This has one of the longest single player campaigns I have seen in a shooter, and there is never a dull moment.
If you love military shooters that aren't completely linear, give this game a try. I'm replaying it for the second time and enjoying every minute of it. -- Tons of fun
